Our CP and CE1 went our for a hands-on workshop called Couleurs de Plantes.
Our guide Charlotte welcomed us and led us to a cozy pergola where we could sit, observe, and listen. She explained how red cabbage juice can change color when mixed with acidic or basic substances, like lemon juice and soap.
We started by squeezing the lemon and grating the soap to help them mix more easily with the cabbage juice.
Then we observed the fascinating chemical reactions: the cabbage juice turned red with soap and blue with lemon juice! Using these reactions, we painted with natural materials that changed color right in front of our eyes.
Afterward, we went on a material hunt in the garden. We collected flower petals, leaves, and small branches to create a second painting. Even though they came straight from nature, their colors were vivid and perfect for art.
It was a wonderful afternoon of science, creativity, and nature.
